Yay or Nay: Jimmy Choo's acid brights

jimy-choo-clutch.jpgSomeone get that man a pair of sunglasses! (I've heard he makes his own line of particularly nice ones.) I mean, bright colours make a welcome change in winter and neons are definitely 'in', but I can't help thinking that Jimmy Choo is interpreting the trend a little too literally.

First came the luminous pink leopard print clutches. Then the fluorescent, lighting up shoes. And now this: it's an acrylic shoulder-clutch in a very vivid shade of fuschia, in case you were wondering.

What do you think about all this then?

Yay or Nay: Absolutely massive handbags

chanel-biarritz.jpgHandbags aren't getting any smaller. Designers at the moment are obsessed with making bags that are so humungous they dwarf their owners, apart from when they're designing clutch bags, which are right at the other end of the scale. At the moment, it can feel a it like the only bags available to us are either too small to hold a wallet (even a recession-hit one) or so big that you need wheels to take them out.

So what do you think about bag giants like the Chanel Biarritz and Dior's xxl briefcases? Is it good that they take into account womens' needs for more room in an age where pockets seem to have disappeared altogether? Do they really make your body look smaller by comparison? Share your view below!

Yay or Nay: Judith Leiber

judith-leiber.jpgI always think there are quite enough bag shapes and styles out there that we shouldn't have to make them look like animals, but something tells me Judish Leiber and I would disagree on that one. Her current menagerie of bags includes parrots, owls and this rather sleepy looking leopard, which I suppose is a natural progression from all the leopard print gear we've been seeing on everything lately.

But what do you think? If money were no object, would you want a big cat of bling on your back?

Yay or Nay: Replica Handbags

replica-handbags2.jpgHowever much we might want one, we can't all afford a Marc Jacobs or Fendi handbag, and almost nobody could afford to buy every 'it bag' that appears on the scene. Bag buying is hard work and fraught with risks: what if you do decide to bomb that one and a half grand on this season's most must-have studded number only to find that 'hardware' goes completely out of fashion three years down the line?

High street stores and mid-range designers are great at doing designer homages these days and some would say there's never an excuse to buy a designer 'knock-off'. But what if you find one that's really, really convincing and noone will ever know? Would you be tempted to go for it just that once? Fill in our anonymous poll below and be honest!

Burberry and Barbed Wire: a match made in hell?

burberry-barbed-wire-2.jpgBurberry have got ever so prickly recently, in what is a brave move for the trad-chic brand. Are they channeling the punk look, or could it be all those years of pent-up rage at all that counterfeiting?

The brand's latest jewellery range includes a barbed wire bracelet and necklace (which is growing on me although it does remind me a little too much of Pamela Anderson) and here, the pieces have been used as bag embellishments on a baby check tote. It feels to my like this is a combination that should never happen. But what do you think?

Yay or Nay: Chunky bag charms

bag-tags.jpgI have a Luella handbag that's fast becoming the love of my life. The design is spot-on for what I want in a bag but the first thing I did when it came into my possession was to remove the extra large, chunky bag charms that it came with. After speaking to a few other 'bag ladies' I soon discovered that pulling off unwanted charms after buying a bag is pretty normal: so who actually likes them, I wonder? Is it you? Confess!

YAY OR NAY: From Russia with war medals

yay-or-nay.jpgAfter writing at length about the refined and minimalist sensibilities of the designers at Chanel recently, I feel almost embarrassed to be confronted with this specimen, which popped up on my radar earlier today. Described by commentators as 'ornate' (I say 'cluttered) it's part of the label's Paris-Moscou collection, which has just gone on sale.

Will you be wanting one?
