Big, chunky watches are - well - bigger than ever at the moment, with the digital sort in particular popping up all over the place. And talking of 'pop', aren't we due a Pop Swatch revival just about any second now? Timex have already gone stellar with their edibly-vibrant new colours and now US brand Toywatch are here to show you the time of your life.
Available now in Selfridges, the range of fun and oversized timepieces includes these limited edition union jack designs, which are exclusive to the store. The range is a riot of colour with interchangeable straps throughout. Look out for more designs in this exciting collection.
Remember when Timex digital watches were the coolest thing ever - and having one would instantly earn you a million mojos or Garbage Pail Kids in the playground? Well whadda you know, they're cool all over again.
I was always more of a Swatch, analogue girl, personally, and am waiting for that revival to roll around before I stop relying on my mobile phone to tell me the time. But if you were more of a digital chick (or would have been, if you're too young to remember) this original style Timex in a lovely shade of green is pure retro goodness in a shade that will make your outfit go pop.
I'm not that keen on watch necklaces, I've never really got the appeal. But after all these years of turning my nose up at them I actually found one I like and I have to say I am quite taken by this Urban Outfitters watchlace! Ooh see what I did there.
I think this cute little necklace could actually persuade me to wear a timepiece around my neck! I love kooky pieces and this has just the right balance between weird and wonderful. It's meant to be in the shape of a cherry but I can't really see it myself, the leaves look more like wings to me! Either way, cherry or angel, it is definitely a yay.
I haven't worn a watch since I was about 15, and so unless I have my phone near me, I never know the time. This might be the reason for my chronic lateness, who knows?
But anyway, one of the reasons is that having a watch on my wrist annoys me. This is why watch necklaces (Watchlaces?) are so great! This one is Marc by Marc Jacobs, who we've already seen has a penchant for them.
This skull watch necklace (or Watchlace) is made of steel, and has the watch face on the base of the charm. It's £120 from ASOS if you like it.
Despite the obvious beauty of both pyramid stud and chain link watches, I can pretty safely say neither of these Burberry watches will be finding their way onto my arm anytime soon. At £595 and £425 respectively they're just beyond my grasp (and believe me, I'm stretching my arm as far as it can go!) so until I win the lottery, that's probably where they'll stay *sigh*.
Oh well, I'll always have my awesome virtual world to transport to, where I can afford not only both watches, but the rest of the 'New In' pages at Net-a-Porter - and hey, you're all welcome to join me there! However, to make things a bit more "real" ('cause, you know, that'll help it to seem slightly more sane), let's make some real decisions - the first being, which of these watches would you pick if you had to choose between them? Vote below and let me know.
Considering the amount of posts I seem to write about watches (ie. not too many), the ratio of Marc by Marc Jacobs ones I've written about it seems rather high (I think this will be the second... or third). Oh well, the man does some interesting watches *shrug*
And this hexagonal cuff is particularly interesting, wouldn't you agree? Bold, chunky cuffs are very fashionable at the moment, but this one seems like it would stand the test of time with it's acetate body and stainless steel hardware. The fact that it combines a watch into the design seems almost secondary in a way, but is a great feature nonetheless! It's £150 from Net-a-Porter.
It's been a while since I've found a watch worthy of Bag Lady praise, but it's also been a while since I've found myself lingering around the watch counters at any department store. Having a wander around Debenhams the other day led me to said watch counter and quick to pop out at me was this little beauty by Michael Kors.
I'm not sure you can quite see in this picture, but the strap has a slightly pearlescent sheen to it, making it look like it is crafted from a shell of some sort. That, combined with the gold accents on the dial and the chronograph design, means it looks fashionable (and dare I say it, summery) while still being extremely practical. Sold! It's £170 from Debenhams.
