Ebay Watch: Lovely Lulu Guinness Shopper

lulu-guinness-shopper.jpgYou may have to go head-to-head with me if you're interested in this shopper, as I'm thinking about putting a bid in any minute now. But don't let that put you off: there's only two days left to go on this auction, and the 'prize' is a particularly fun and decorative bag from Lulu Guinness' inimitable range.

Being a 'shopper', this bag will be sturdy and strong and eco-friendly too, as you'll be contributing to a reduction in plastic bag use that's already made a huge difference to Britain's waste mountain. Supermarket bags for life are all well and good, but I'm finding that the 'life' span of most is little more than that of the average butterfly. Place a bid today, and get your next shopping trip done in style!

Auction here, starting at £14.99.

Anya hindmarch canvas 'shopping' tote

shopping-tote.jpgAnya Hindmarch could be accused of stating the obvious a little too often "I'm not a plastic bag" speaks for itself, and here's another accessory with instructions on it in case you don't know what it's for. But I have to admit I love her all the more for it. There aren't nearly enough down-to-earth attitudes in fashion.

That said, I wouldn't necessarily use this bag just for shopping, as I think it's far too pretty to be only a glorified carrier bag. I'm seeing picnics, beach parties, weekends away and plenty of overnight stays in this bag's future. The fabric is hard-wearing, the stitching top-notch.

If you like this bag and want to see similar items, it's £65 at Net-a-Porter

Black zip detail 'Maggie' bag at Oliver Bonas

zip-maggie-bah.jpgIf you're looking for a practical and trendy handbag, this large, zip-embellished bag at Oliver Bonas is completely on trend for the season's exposed hardware look, and looks very practical too. It's similar to the Whistles biker bag I was lusting over a few weeks back, but it significantly less than half the cost.

Available in three colours, this is a style I can see selling out in a heartbeat. The black model shown here will see you through winter in style, while the neutral and grey versions will still look fresh come spring.

£35 at Oliver Bonas

Emma Bridgewater foldaway polkadot bag

emma-bridgewater-bag.jpgWe're massive fans of anything Emma Bridgewater cares to decorate with her trademark 'Smartie' dots around here, so I can't help thinking that this foldaway shopper bag from the designer would make the perfect gift or stocking filler.

Plastic bag usage really has plummeted since we all started taking these little foldaway bags with us on as many of our shopping missions as we can remember, so anything you can do to keep that in mind is great for the planet. I can't imagine forgetting this pretty bag - can you? £10 from John Lewis

Supersize Suzy Smith shopper for sale...

suzy-smith-shopper-bigger.jpgI've got to do what we fondly refer to at home as a 'big shop' later today, and sadly my 'bags for life' are not really living up to their name.

Not being one to encourage plastic bag use, however, I'll be cramming them into my handbag to pull out when it's checkout time. But I'd much prefer to have one of these spacious, kitsch and fun shopper bags from Suzy Smith on my arm! 'Genevieve' has been specially designed for the stylish shopper: it's roomy, strong and even comes with its own lock in case you're buying any particularly posh deli items. £85 at Fashion Store.

Etsy pick of the week: Bag of Chains

bag-of-chains.jpgThis floppy, folksy creation by The Modern Quilter looks perfectly charming from a distance, but view it close up and you'll see that the abstract, almost floral-looking print is in fact a sprawling mass of chains!

I love subversive prints like these (reminds me of the Get Cutie 'skulls and roses' dress), so the bag was already winner for me - but it's practical too: sturdy, machine washable and roomy, it's a definite hit for hardcore shoppers! $79 at Etsy

Vivienne Westwood leopard print shopper

viv-bag2.jpgThis wonderful piece from Dame Viv's Accessories range gives a playful and stylish twist to the original shopper bag. I don't think I'd actually want to use it for shopping (never trust those screwcap milk bottles) but it would certainly come in handy on a weekend away or for ferrying papers to and from the office.

I like the way the leopard pattern is subtle enough not to hijack the bag's classic elegance, but gives it that youthfulness that always lurks just beneath the label's grown-up glamour. £365 at My Wardrobe
