The weather outside is frightful...and you don't need us to tell you that. But if you're stuck on what to wear around your neck this winter, we may be able to help. My absolute favourite here has got to be the Russian Dolls cashmere scarf by Yarnz at ASOS - but there's plenty more here to keep you warm! Details are below:

1. Anne Weyburn pleated-look scarf £35 at La Redoute
2. Whistles' 'Brigitte' printed scarf: £45 at Whistles
3. 'Somewhere' knitted scarfette: £19 at La Redoute
4. Yarnz Russian Doll cashmere scarf: £58 at ASOS
5. Heart-print scarf in purple: £10 at Lipsy
6. Paul Smith grey Nordic scarf: £80 at Liberty
7. Kew spot scarf in red and chocolate: £36 at John Lewis
8. Steffen Schraut black scarf with golden Peace logo: €149 at Stylebop
As the chill wind continues to blow and the prospect of looking stylish is all-but eclipsed by the need to keep warm, we're loving this ruffle-edged scarf from Tommy Hilfiger. Also available in magenta and slate grey, a piece like this can mean the difference between the going out in the regulation winter warmers that everyone else wears, and continuing to look great whatever the weather.
Any colour in the range could be seamlessly teamed with a camel coat and worn with pride on those midwinter walks. Although it's hard to tell from the picture, the fabric used to make these scarves is 100% fine wool.

Left the house without adequate cold protection this morning? Don't panic just yet, because there are plenty of snuggly and stylish accessories available to you for the smallest fee. Just hot-foot it to your nearest high street where we've picked out these items that should see you trough the worst of the winter.

If you hate the drabness that gets inflicted on us at this time of year then rest assured that you can get all the madness and colour you want from that little accessory round your neck. Like tights, patterned and brightly coloured scarves are in strong supply this season, so take your pick from our selection or be inspired by how designers are rebelling against the age old obsession with black!

Chloé chain embellished silk scarf in olive and animal print, £405 at Net-a-Porter

Pom-poms are bigger than ever at the moment! Whether they're sailing proudly along behind your favrouite designer handbag or bobbing along on top of your head, you know you'll make passersby smile with one of these cheery decorations.
I've not heard of garments being made from recycled wool before, so am pretty excited about these super-green winter warmers from People Tree, whose clothes and accessories make you look and feel good, inside and out. These jolly coloured mittens and hat are both made under fairtrade conditions in Nepal and have been slashed in price, just in time for winter.
Mittens are £10 and hat, £11 both at People Tree

Cloth Ears' Paper Planes range stole the hearts of many an indie-loving fashionista this summer, but now we're more about hot water bottles than holidays, there's another range over at the handmade haven to make you feel warm and cozy inside.
They include this mocha-brown 'Bambi deer' scarf, complete with sky blue ribbons and a whole herd of 'Bambis' hanging on the ends. A fun choice for anyone who isn't afraid to go for a festive look with lashings of cute.

As if you needed another reason to visit Liberty of London, the department store has opened a pop-up store in conjunction with Hermès.
Creative director of Hermès Silk, Bali Barret, has designed a limited edition collection of scarves and ties using Liberty's Tana Lawn cottons. The exclusive line features six different mico-floral prints (£140 each) and are printed with Hermès' iconic 'Ex Libris' design. The scarves are available from Liberty's West End store and to purchase online until 18th October, 2009. [via Sassybella]
