Sailor chic on the cheap

nautical-chic.jpgWe may have promised not to go overboard *ahem* on the nautical gear earlier on in the season, but it's now high time we cast an eye back over what's on offer for those who long for seagulls and salty air.

Sailor chic is such an easy look to get right that you don't need to spend a lot of money on it; instead, check out what small indie designers and high street brands have to offer. We love this 'Sailor Love In' bag, £20 at Accessorize, which has stitched-on sequin hearts that are just adorable. Finish off your look with some hand-made jewellery, like this 'Ahoy!' anchor brooch (£25 by Love from Hetty & Dave) or Anchor Medallion pendant, £16, as above.

Fenn Wright Mason chrysanthemum devoré bag

fenn wright mason.jpgWhile we're on the subject of shabby-chic and vintagey looking accessories, I thought I'd pick out something a little more affordable than Marni's runway delights from the high street. Fenn Wright Mason's satin devoré bag, with its lovely, contrasting chrysanthemum design is a great example of a time-honoured look that's been brought right up to date with clever styling - and I love it. Ideal for those planning on a summer of garden parties and weddings...

Pick it up for £49 at John Lewis

Vivienne Westwood's SIGG bottles tackle fashion week waste

vivienne-westwood-sigg.jpgWe're used to seeing fashionistas chugging bottle after bottle of mineral water at shows, only to discard the plastic packaging when they're done with it, so it's good to see one fashion heavyweight addressing the problem of unnecessary waste.

SIGG bottles are completely reusable aluminium flasks that come in a variety of lovely colours and styles, and by carrying one with you on the go it's easy to lower the environmental cost of throw-away bottles. Jo Wood, T4's Jameela Jamil and Pixie Lott were all spotted at London Fashion Week carrying the bottles, which have a very Dame Viv punk look about them!

For a full range of SIGG bottles, check out the site.

Banana guards: healthy eating with less mess

banana-guard.jpgHow I wish I'd known about these nifty little objects last time I lost a banana in my favourite Ted Baker handbag - healthy eating plans are all well and good, but when you find yourself soiling your luggage with your fruity lunch, a quick trip to the chip shop can start to look a whole lot more inviting...

Banana Guards keep your 'nana lovely and bruise-free, your bag lovely and - um - banana free. And they come in a range of wonderful colours, so you can accessorise to your hearts content.

See the whole selection of banana and other 'froot guards' here
