Louis Mariette Caesar leaf headband

louis_mariette_caesars_leaf_headband.jpg

Whether we can blame the recession (possible) or something as straightforward as a change in fashion (more likely), it's very plain to see we are seeing more of a switch from blinging jewellery on the ears, neck and fingers to simple sparklers and eye-catching designs worn in the hair. They're feminine and pretty, beautiful and yet simple and not gaudy and that is what appeals.

I love this Louis Mariette Caesar leaf headband as it personifies all of the above. It would look particularly good with a deep burgundy or forest green evening dress with a bit of body shimmer on the cheeks and shoulders, but I'm sure you'd be able to think of a million and one other outfits to wear it with too. It's £250, new in at Net-a-Porter.

Make your own Ascot headgear with this Hats On Heads fascinator kit

makeyourown_fascinator.jpg

I am heading along to Ascot this year for the first time ever, and while it may be too late for those of you going along to Ladies Day tomorrow, I still have a few days up my sleeve to organise some amazing headgear. If you've got a few days to sort something out too, and are feeling the creative urge, then you may wish to consider actually making your own fascinator. Hats on Heads do a variety of kits with different materials and colour combinations available, so you can create a truly individual day-at-the-races look. They're priced at £30 and can be purchased at John Lewis.

'Fly Me To The Moon' from Eclectic Eccentricity

FlyMeToTheMoon.jpgEclectic Eccentricity are so talented at making beautiful, unstated jewellery that's always unique and has people asking where you've got it, which is why it's my favorite jewellery brand!

This vintage-inspired 'Fly Me To The Moon' necklace is from their Luluxe Bridal range, but you don't need a wedding dress to make this look good. The moon is made from a free form flat disc pearl and the gold filled chain measures 18 inches. You can buy it for £35.

I love that all of their products seem to tell a story, or have a meaning behind them, which makes their pieces perfect as gifts, especially since they're so affordable!

ETSY PICK: Honeybands homemade headbands

etsy_pick_honeybands_headba.jpg

There's nothing that says summer music festivals and beach parties like a hippy headband. And there are none quite so hippy as a leather one with beading, charms, flowers or feathers, which is why I am loving these great designs by Etsy user honeybands. Perfect with tousled beach hair (or recreate the look with salt water spray if you're not near a beach) and a sunkissed glow, prices range between US$30 and $40. You can view all of the headband collection here.

Natalia Vodianova wears Louis Vuitton "bunny ears" for Russian 'Vogue'

vogue_natalia_vodianova_lv_headdress.jpg

When we saw these 'bunny ears' on the Louis Vuitton catwalk in March, our first thought was "hmm, that's never, ever going to catch on". But here we are a few months later, and not only have they made an appearance on the red carpet (Madonna at the MET Costume Institute Gala) but now they're gracing the cover of a glossy - and a glossy none other than Vogue. Natalia Vodianova, in all her supermodel gorgeousness, makes them look *marginally* more wearable than Madge, but I still cannot, for the life of me, picture this look walking down Regent Street any time soon!

Bridalwave accessory pick: Four folksy fascinators

folksy-fascinators.jpg

Our mates over at Bridalwave go on the hunt for fab bridal accessories for you:

Nothing sets off a summer dress more prettily than a floral fascinator, so we've picked out a few of our favourite hand-made headpieces for you to check out today.

Since fascinators have become a bit 'generic' (we remember the days when people who know what they were called would try to show off their 'new word' in conversation), it's become harder to track down really individual ones that aren't too run-of-the-mill. All of these are hand-made, so you shouldn't find yourself clashing with too many wedding guests if you choose to don one of these.

Read on over the jump for details of each item
