I have to admit that Gucci's recent show is the only one in the accessories category that I wasn't exactly wowed by. Sure, all of next season's collections are going to feature drab colours: barring the odd bit of sparkle courtesy of Mulberry and the like, that's the A/W 10 palate. But Gucci is the only label that's managed to make the bags themselves look drab as well.
I think it's just the styling that doesn't grab me - the leather is beautifully puckered and of obvious, undeniable quality. But there's just not enough interest going on to counterbalance those heavy front-flaps and jelly-like curves. Not going on the wish list here!
Gucci is back again with another range of limited edition items to help UNICEF. For the past five years, the fashion house has created products for the Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF which raises funds for the charity's ongoing work in Africa.
Collaborating with author Michael Roberts, Gucci has produced a range of bags and accessories based on the illustration's of Roberts's Snowman in Africa, the sequel to his book Snowman in Paradise. Elle Macpherson has already been seen toting her elephant-print 'Joy' bag.

I'm not sure how I feel about this bag - whether it's just merely yucky or really quite revolting. I don't often go on a spiel about disliking bags because I believe that there's a bag out there for everyone - and I hate the thought of putting down other people for their taste or offending anyone. But seriously... this bag is all shades of wrong in my opinion.
First of all, it looks like it's had an oil bath accident - the multicolour patent leather isn't so pretty. The shape, the slouchiness, the hardware are all fine. But I can't stop thinking how badly it would leave icky fingerprints all over, and that doesn't fly by me sorry Gucci. However, I'd love to know if you disagree - tell me if you do, and definitely give reasons why you like this bag. You never know, you may be able to swing my opinion. In case you're wondering too, it's on pre-order for $1,790 from Bergdorf Goodman.

Two Yay or Nay's in one week? 'Tis true! Since we over at ShinyStyle featured a bag as our yay or nay today, we knew Bag Lady readers had to get in on the action.
We've already picked on Rihanna this week, but now we want you to pick apart her handbag collection for Gucci and tell us what you think.
We've known for a while now Rihanna is the new ambassador for Gucci's UNICEF Tattoo Heart ad campaign, and now we've had our first (edited) glimpse of the full-length film (to be released on 9 December on gucci.com). Ri-Ri swings around on a hoop suspended in the air, with one of the gorgeous white leather Gucci bags slung across her shoulder. Have a look for yourself and make sure you check out the behind-the-scenes vid too...
I'm not normally the biggest fan of Gucci's handbags. Not that I have anything against them, it's just that I most likely wouldn't consider them my first-choice stop when bag shopping (although, apparently that's not the same for everyone, with Gucci coming out top in a poll earlier this year of favourite luxury brands).
However, I'll be the first to put my hand up and say I am feeling this new spring/summer '09 collection in a big way. Rich jewel colours - ruby red, amethyst purple and aquamarine - and sumptuous skins played a big part in my desire, but so too do the braided edges and dangling tassels, which give the bags a boho chic feel.
