Sea monsters at See by Chloe

see-by-chloe-charms.jpgI do have to wonder who buys these crazy charms. Liberty's display cases can sometimes look like the cabinets of a toy shop, so jam-packed they are with funny little friends to adorn the handbags of the seriously rich.

I had to smile at these two, however, which could provide a quick and easy way to let your luggage know that summer's coming. The crab and 'sea monster' charms (the latter looking entirely like a Koosh ball) are both emblazoned with the See by Chloe logo and the crab can be used as an external purse. I guess that's one practical reason to spend £70 on it, but you'll be on your own if you want to argue the case for the sea monster...

Both available at Liberty.

Yay or Nay: Mulberry keyring

mulberry-keyring.jpgYou may not be able to buy the real thing for your Mulberry loving friend this Christmas, but you can at least show willing, with - er - this enamel keyring. It's in the shape of the brand's iconic Bayswater bag, and will add a certain whiff of quality to whatever item you choose to hang it from. Given that the keyring itself costs £70, I can't imagine that's very likely to be your trusty peacock's tote, but obviously the choice is yours.

So if you can't afford a real Bayswater (but would like to), how would you feel about being given this trinket as a gift? Would it be a constant sorry reminder of your lack of handbag, or a cool motif that's desirable in its own right?

Unique & handmade: Sacha's Leather Arts

sascha-allen.jpgI spotted Sacha's Leather Arts at Spitalfields market, where London-based designer Sacha Allen sets up stall every Sunday, selling her distinctive and vibrant designs that look even better quality in real life than they do in these pictures.

Her handbags, many of which are decorated with colourful, three-dimensional motifs, are available in various sizes and take their inspiration from sources as diverse as natural flora and comic books (full collection here). But I was particularly taken with Sacha's collection of heart-shaped bag charms, which she's currently making in zebra print, red fun-fur and metallic leather. Each is priced at just a fiver and will instantly transform the character of your bag.

Visit Sacha's store every Sunday at Spitalfield's Market

School stationery-style jewellery at Whistles

whistles-jewellery.jpgWhistles really do have the loveliest jewellery in store at the moment. Think Tatty Devine but with less perspex and more bright, heavy enamels.

They've chosen 'back to school' as their theme, with pencil pendants in black, bright yellow or silver, the pencil sharpener ring we featured in our office chic feature and a nostalgic winged rollerskate boot keyring. All add a delightful twist to sensible outfits or bags, without going overboard on the 'cute'.

See the full range at Whistles.

Bag decorations: Mulberry's giant pom pom

mulberry-pom-pom.jpgDoes your luggage need a bit of cheering up? If so, Mulberry have got just the thing...

You've got to hand it to a brand that's able to sell a pom pom for the best part of a hundred quid, seemingly without a hint of irony. But the crazy thing is that these decorations really are lovely items in their own right.

Sure, I'm on a real decorations and miniatures kick at the moment, but having seen and held one of these little trinkets, I have to admit I was spellbound. I'm a real fiddler, and if I had one of these pom poms on my bag I'm sure I'd never have to look far for something to play with. It's just so heavy and tactile and fun!

It's (oh....good grief this is a pom pom we're talking about) £90 at Mulberry
