'La Mode' hip belt at ASOS

la-mode.jpg
The trend for accessories spelling out words is one that won't last forever, but I'm all for embracing it while it's here as some of the items are terribly cute, will always prompt a few comments and add interest to the most ordinary of outfits like, for example, a t-shirt and jeans.

Necklaces and bracelets with lettering are starting to look decidedly tired, but I quite like this idea of wearing words around the waist. This belt is particularly fun and I think it would make a thoughtful and funny gift for a friend who fancies herself as a bit of a fashionista.

£20 at ASOS

Topshop metal chain and flower belt

topshop_chain_and_flower_belt.jpg

Isn't this belt just gorgeous? It reminds me of Diane von Furstenberg's pretty headdresses from S/S 09 and garden parties and cupcakes and floral teadresses and all things nice, really.

I'd be tempted to wear this with my most excessively girly frocks - the ones which are already frilly and floral enough as it is - just for fun. But I also know it would also look great with my simpler dresses - American Apparel stretch jersey style - for injecting a bit of colour, texture and femininity. All this for just £22 from Topshop.

Cobalt blue suede stud belt from Dorothy Perkins

DorothyPerkinsWaistBelt.jpgThere's nothing like a bit of bad weather to make you regret all the moaning you did about how hot it was just a few days earlier. It's all gone a bit sad and grey and rainy now. But this waist belt is sure to brighten up your day! (Did you like that bridge? Clever.)

Made of cobalt blue suede, it would look amazing with a white dress - just imagine how the colour would pop! It's £20 from Dorothy Perkins.

BAG LADY PREVIEW: Miss Selfridge A/W '09 accessories

Continuing on with the press day previews (I featured Topshop the other day, followed by Louis Vuitton on Friday), here is a bit of a sneaky peek at what we can expect from Miss Selfridge for Autumn/Winter 2009-2010. There's a bit of an 80s rock n' roll vibe happening here and they've obviously drawn quite a bit of inspiration from, funnily enough, the S/S '09 Louis Vuitton collection - check out the metallic clutch and the tribal-inspired shoes. Lots of studding too, on everything from shoes to bags to belts to jewellery.

Click the image below to check out some more previews.

Pick of the best eco chic accessories for Spring

spring eco chic.jpg

Hippyshopper's Abi Silvester writes...

Let's all agree to forget for five minutes that it was snowing this time last year: the glorious sunshine means only one thing: that spring is here at last, so we might as well assume it's here to stay.

I've already seen sunglasses, parasols and summer shoes on display, so not being one to be left out, I've done a quick hunt for some fabulous ethically made accessories to see me from spring into summer.

Follow the jump for details.

Get the Christopher Ross look with Topshop's wing buckle belt

christopher_ross_belts_topshop.jpg

I've made no secret of the fact I love the unique style of blogger Jane from Sea of Shoes. She has such a great knack for putting together surprising outfits and so what's not surprising, is the fact I also love the style of her mother Judy (she, too, has her own blog: Atlantis Home).

Judy's love of her Christopher Ross belts has introduced scores of people to his eye-catching designs and while the real deal appears to be rather hard to get hold of, we spotted this Topshop wing buckle belt (£12) and couldn't help but think it could be the short-term answer to nipping in blazers and holding up jeans until we can get our hands on a genuine Christopher Ross.

Alexander McQueen cutout patent leather belt

alexander_mcqueen_cutout_patent_belt.jpg

Alexander McQueen is the name on everyone's lips today, thanks to a rip roaring show at Paris Fashion Week yesterday. Apparently heated arguments abounded afterwards as the show was so charged with energy and a wee bit of fashion controversy (read the full Style.com review here to find out more).

So in celebration of all things McQueen, we went searching his stuff and found this fantastic cutout patent leather belt which truly had us at 'cinch'. Wear over work shirts, little black dresses for eveningwear or even over your winter coat, for an instant outfit rev-up. It's £377 from Net-a-Porter.
