Dads luck out on Father's Day. Mum gets flowers and chocolates and yummy smelling things for the bathroom, while Dad gets...a golf mug, a novelty card and a pair of beer glass decorated socks. Really, how many of us have dads who are obsessed with golf? I swear Father's Day is one of the few times when the male stereotypes get used.

Don't go for the obvious. Your dad deserves better. Here are a few suggestions:

Fashion in the post

If your dad is one of those young, trend types (at least in his mind), he might like Brandid's The Boss box. It's a one-off or monthly box with designer pants, socks and a top for men.

Yes, they're socks - but they're designer socks! We're talking Calvin Klein and Armani here. Much better than a beer print.

Getaway Gear
If your dad tends to travel a lot, treat him to an overnight bag he'll be proud to be seen out with. An Adidas bag just isn't going to cut it.

This Varsity Holdall is surprisingly from River Island for the bargain price of £40. Throw in some nice toiletries and a pair of ear plugs for bonus points.

Certainly better than a mug.

Driving him crazy

Your poor dad probably spent the vast majority of your teenage years driving you between parties, classes and social events.

So he might appreciate the cheekiness in getting him a pair of driving gloves. Plus, I've been told that most men feel like James Bond when they pull on a pair of driving gloves and get behind the wheel of their Porsche Corsa.

They're £42 from Net-A-Porter's brother site Mr Porter

Take note

My dad spends a lot of time writing notes down everywhere, so I'm tempted to get him this Smythson Small Leather Notebook.

It's a classic, expensive-looking gift that would go nicely with an old school fountain pen for the dad that still refuses to learn how to text.

The Smythson Small Leather Notebook is £45 from Mr Porter.

What are you getting your dad for Father's day?
