You may not have heard of Cutler and Gross, but you'll certainly recognise some of their awesomely iconic designer frames; specs that have adorned the faces of Grace Jones, Jarvis Cocker, Lady Gaga, Noel Gallagher and many more besides.
A British brand with a forty-year history of making first-rate specs at the forefront of fashion, C&G prides itself on quality and originality, with all pieces hand-made in Italy. All frames can be personalised, and custom made in a choice of colours and materials. But when we visited the launch of the Cutler and Gross Museum at the label's Knightsbridge store last week, we here at The Bag Lady found we liked most of the frames on display just the way they are!
The Museum is a celebration of everything that Cutler and Gross has achieved over the last 40 years. A range of styles in chronological order lines the walls, allowing customers the chance to pick either an authentic 'retro' style from any era from the 1970s onwards, or an ultra-modern contemporary design. We also got the chance to check out the shop's famous mirrored room; an opulent antechamber where consultations for the label's bespoke service take place.
All this sounds terribly exclusive and expensive, doesn't it? Well the good news that surprised us during our visit to the store is that the cost of basic Cutler and Gross frames is really no more than you'd expect to pay for an average pair of decent gogs. Most are priced at around £279, which having seen the range and heard how carefully the products are made is exceptionally reasonable.
