In a similar vein to Prada, Balenciaga went in for bags held at the side (although in this case the bags were designed to be worn this way!) with some interesting new styles that depart a little from their usual, more colourful fare and added a surprise crop of flowers: a motif that has not been seen at Balenciaga for some time.

The pieces themselves were hugely stylish, however: we particularly loved the grape-coloured woven clutches with their metallic straps; a modern sculptural look that really stood out on the runway.

Clutches are certainly getting longer, and if you want to look elegant in coming months, investing in a nice lengthy piece of arm-candy is la smart move. We liked the way Balenciaga had decorated theirs: the smoother pieces with their range of decorations - from basic geometric shapes to flocked, elaborate gilding - all showed strong use of space and pattern, placing the collection comfortably back in Balenciaga's usual realm.
