There's a big trend for Anglo-Italian design collaborations at the moment, and one of the most exciting current happenings in the accessories world is the love-in between Matthew Williamson and Bulgari. The designer has brought some of his colourful designs to this very traditional design house, with some dazzling consequences...
Shown below are a series of tote bags featuring a distinctive Williamson kaleidoscope-print, and a set of hexagonal minaudières in kaleidoscope-print satin with snake chain strap and diamond shape closures. These styles are inspired by the ladylike evening bags carried by Bulgari's wealthy customers in the 1950s.
Elsewhere in the collection is a range of calfskin hobos (above left) clutch bags and wallets (above right), all featuring a new contemporary hexagonal print that Williamson designed specially for Bulgari; each rendered in his signature bright colours. The items are all adorned with oversized jewel closures in light gold, palladium or ruthenium, each bearing the BVLGARI logo.
The Matthew Williamson for Bulgari Spring/Summer 2011 capsule collection will be available at Bulgari stores starting from January 2011.
