Ever since I discovered a small selection of their bags at Ascension I've been intrigued by the NV London and Calcutta range of fashionable fairtrade bags. Still a newcomer to the scene, NV has already been shortlisted for the the Ethical Fashion Forum's Innovation Award for its commitment to fighting poverty in Calcutta, one of India's poorest areas.
But the label doesn't let its commitment to fair trade get in the way of its eye for style: the large leather handbag pictured above is the Coco £180, which can be 'dressed up' with a silk scarf for seasonal colour coordination. Its smaller sister (called the Virginia) is £160. Both are classic bags that should stand the test of time.
