It seems pretty much everyone got the memo about toning things down a tad for this year's Golden Globe Awards. In these harsh economic times it makes sense not to flash a whole lotta bling around town - we understand, we do. It doesn't make the fact that there aren't truckloads of diamonds and flashy clutches to perve at any less sad though. The stars kept things to a minimum, but we still managed to find things we liked...

Love love LOVE Eva's turquoise necklace - the ultimate piece of jewellery in my opinion. The earrings and ring are amazing too, yet don't detract from the necklace centrepiece. Favourite accessories of the night.

Kit

I very much dislike Eva Mendes, but this look works well for her. Now if someone would just have ripped off that bow, I'd give her 10/10. Love Heidi Klum, but the size of the rose and the shape of the bottom of the dress just don't work. The CL's are really something, but her toes hang off and it doesn't look right. Eva Longoria Parker looks stunning here. The bare makeup and jewelry are a plus with this firey red dress. Yay! Love Drew Barrymore, love the dress, but the hair just isn't working for me. Drunken housewife chic! Anna Paquin looks good here minus the harsh hair. Penelope is beautiful, but I expected more from her. This dress is boring and has been done a million times. Ah, Rene. I have no words for Rene's dress but "EEEK!" Don't get me started on that hair! Sandra Bullock's makeup, hair, and accessories are good, but I just don't know what to make of the dress. Flattering shape, but the dress is no good. Love Christina Applegate, and the top of this gown is fantastic on her. The bottom half is all wrong. The lines are awkward and sit awkwardly on her body.

All in all, I say that next year they all need to step it up a notch!

I really liked the "keeping it low" twist this year. I saw some very interesting alternatives to the bling, just like in the picture here. I love that necklace.
