Topshop leather cross body bag

leathercrossbodytopshop.jpg
You're probably looking at this purple leather, oversized bag from Topshop thinking, This bag is an average leather bag, why would you feature it? And you'd be right, there's no denying that this is quite nice but nothing to write home about, right? It's from Topshop which is a High Street store where you can pick up plain t-shirts and vests for under £10, so can someone please explain to me why this will set you back £120?
It's made of authentic leather and it is big but surely nobody wants to pay that much for a bag on the High Street? What do you think? Would you pay this much?

well, I think it´s a fair prize for such a huge bag. I´d like to have one, especially because of the color. I´m a purple fan. So if anybody has any news of any purple stuff just let me know.

I think that this is a reasonable price for a large leather bag (topshop describe it as 'extra large' so it's probably massive). They will have had to pay for: raw materials (leather isn't cheap), labour, packing, transporting from country of origin (more for larger bags as this is calculated by volume), import duty into the UK, distribution into stores + topshop's profit.

I'm not sure if it will be a massive seller but they obviously believe there is a market for bags at that price point and they seem to know what they're doing!

On another point I think people have very little idea of the actual value of things because of the warped prices on the high street. Primark can afford to be that cheap because they buy enormous quantities (and use 'value' labour), supermarkets can afford to sell at less than cost if it makes for good PR...

It seems to me that around £100 for a leather bag on the high street is about average now (see warehouse and River Island)
