Samantha Cameron 'Nancy' bag for Smythson sells out and causes controversy
Samantha Cameron has been trying to build connections in the celebrity world by designing a calf skin handbag for Smythson. The wife of Tory leader David Cameron pictured here with Cat Deeley designed the £950 tote which began selling in August and promptly sold out within just three weeks. However, now the animal rights charity PETA have spoken out against it, "As advocates for all things green, the Camerons should know the leather industry is about as environmentally friendly as an ocean oil spill," said spokesperson. The calf skin bag is seen as particularly cruel as the young calves are taken from their mother, starved and finally slaughtered. The 'Nancy' is named after the Mitford sister as well as Cameron's daughter. The bag was available in three colours from Smythson, where Mrs Cameron has been the creative director for ten years.
