Help Zoe Find A Work Appropriate Bag for Under $500

Marc_14

Hi Katherine, I read your options for a stylish work bag for Taskeen- I just love the Novak and the Hudson. I wonder what you think about the Marc Jacobs Teri Shopper/ Tote as a work bag? Is it too casual or would it work for the in-office days at work with a change to a smarter bag for external  meetings? Or is it too on trend and will look out of place next year? If so, could you recommend a stylish work bag in the $500 range? Thanks, Zoe

Read under the cut for my opinion on the 'Teri' bag, plus a few more alternatives...

I personally love the Marc Jacobs 'Teri' tote. I wrote about it the other day and couldn't find enough nice things to say about it. A budget of $500 does limit you if you want a designer bag, but fortunately the Marc by Marc Jacobs range tends to fall under that price limit. 'Teri' is just $445 from Net-A-Porter, and I believe it's more than smart enough for work. Plus, being a tote, it means you can stick in some flats for when your work heels start to give you blisters! If you don't like the black version, you can also buy it in moss green, and sunset brown, from Neiman Marcus. Another bag in the Marc range is the 'Wham' leather satchel, something I also wrote about just in the past few weeks, it comes in two colours (tan and dark brown) and is $378. It's slightly more feminine than the 'Teri', in the usual handbag shape.

A similar bag to the 'Wham' is Marc's 'Silvie', a double pocket hobo, for $428. It comes in black, tan, and dark brown. As I said before, it's quite hard searching for designer bags under $500 which aren't from the Marc by Marc Jacobs label, so forgive me for going a little over budget here. This 'Bianca' bag is made by Botkier, and Neiman Marcus describes it as 'sexy and sensible - the latest It bag'. Whilst I wouldn't go as far as calling it an 'It' bag, it sure is pretty, but at $595 it's slightly more than you planned on spending.

I think any of these bags would be perfect for taking to work, and being designer, they're made of the upmost quality, sure to impress any clients or workmates you have. If it were up to me, I'd probably go for Marc's 'Wham' bag, or, if you don't mind spending $95 over your budget, then I'd suggest the Botkier 'Bianca', as it's a very classy, work-appropriate bag. What do you think, readers? Which bag should Zoe spend her hard-earned money on, and do you have any better ideas?
