Dear Bag Lady, I'm giving up all my extravagances until October and setting aside about £250 to invest in a gorgeous, timeless, beautiful designer bag for work. I'm not bothered about 'it' status, I don't want a monogram and I hate flashy labels (it'll only encourage the muggers). That said, I don't want a bag that looks like it could have been found on the high street. My look is classic with a retro twist, and I want the bag to reflect that. I hate messengers and backpacks - I'd rather have grab handles or short shoulder straps. I'm looking for something that'll age well, in either black or brown leather...but with a twist!

I'm off to Vegas in early October where there'll be plenty of shopping opprtunities, and I know I can get a lot more for my money in the USA (with the current exchange rate, I'll have almost $500 to play around with). I'm too busy looking at shoes to find the best bags, so please help me out with some options...
