The 'Fake-a-Gamo' Knitted Handbag
I'm not usually one for talking craft on The Bag Lady, but I've been following the creation of the 'fake-a-gamo' bag on craftster - a forum for creative types - with great interest. The bag is based on Salvatore Ferragamo's Gancio shoulder bag (left). Neiman Marcus describe the $1,650 bag as being crocheted, but the crafsters quickly recognised a knit stitch and set about working out how to recreate it. Many swatches later, and the first fake-a-gamo was born (right). Obviously it doesn't have the same leather top section as the designer bag, but the stitch pattern is almost identical and - if you know how to knit - you can make one yourself for peanuts by requesting the pattern from knitter and designer handbag fan Kate. Another equally impressive version has been created by another talented type here. Now, where did I put those knitting needles...?
