The quest goes on for non-leather bags that look as good as leather. Sadly, I think that day is a long, long way off, but this one caught my eye as a possible contender. The 'Hannibal Earth' is £80 from ecologically sound label Matt and Nat. From the picture it looks pretty darn good, although I’d like to see it in the flesh (as it were). [Sharon Edge]

Well you've done it now. If you bump into someone on Oxford street with the same bag, that'll be me. I too am looking for the perfect 'tube friendly' bag!

It arrived! It's absolutely lovely. I've been on the look out for my "perfect bag" for ages and this is the closest I've come so far. The only things I'd change to make it exactly right would be the size - I'd rather have it a teensy bit smaller to make it feel less like an overnight bag - and the strap - I'd like to be able to add a really long strap when I need to, but the extra one included was pretty short.

(I know long straps aren't fashionable right now, and this probably isn't the right kind of bag to have a long strap, but I feel safer wandering down Oxford Street with my bag on securely! So it's on my list of requirements for that Perfect Bag.)

Aside from that, this is about as good as it gets. I'm not vegan and leather would have been nice, but it looks great and I get to feel all saintly (instead of cheap, which is how I usually feel after buying something pleather). I hope it will age well - mine is too shiny and new right now. I'd rather have it a bit more battered looking so hopefully it will wear in nicely.

One final note, the people at Bourgeois Boheme were really very lovely. Excellent, friendly customer service and speedy delivery.

Gah! This is the trouble with running a company dedicated to finding lovely things on the net - I saw the bag. I wanted the bag. I bought the bag.
